"Lord Sudeley deserves a lot more recognition than he has had for the erudite contribution he continues to make to British politics. I sincerely hope that he is re-elected as a hereditary. I am particularly fascinated by this idea of a mixed constitution: the idea that first past the post democracy, in isolation from an appointed/hereditary second chamber, or even an active monarch, serves the country better than a system with proper checks and balances is ludicrous! You would hope that the sleaze which has emanated from the HoL since 1999, with the creation of hundreds of dubious life peers, would be a wake-up call for a Conservative government to return the right to participate to all hereditariness."
